The Happy Vitamin - You are my sunshine

I have found a new meaning to healthy living. If you want to know how intelligent you really are, you should eat right, exercise and rest well. You will be amazed how incredibly bright you are or can be. Good health is truly not luxury but a necessity. When you begin, it might feel like a tall order but keep at it and before you know, you will move mountains. These days my energy level is beyond exhaustion and believe me, it feels super great. I’m sure we all know of Vitamin D, today I want to emphasize its importance to our overall wellbeing. You probably already know it can help you build and maintain strong bones. You may even know that it is produced in your body when the sun’s ultraviolet B (UVB) rays shine upon your skin. What’s the impact on our health when we get enough, too much, or too little of it? ‘We estimate that vitamin D deficiency is the most common medical condition in the world.’ Dr. Michael F. Holick To begin with, this sunshine vitamin is different from other nutri...

Happy Hormones - can’t get enough

Hi everyone. This is definitely a good day, I feel very inspired to write. What I’m going to write has not come forth but all I can think of is “write”. Is that the work of the “cyclist high”? I cycled for about half an hour this morning and suddenly, I feel like I can conquer the world. About three months ago, after the belt of my treadmill needed a change   as a result of my DIY skills, I decided to buy a bicycle to keep my exercise routine going.   Why bicycle? I’m not sure. Could it be because of the many cyclists I see on the road or that my English daddy is an avid cyclist. Whatever the reason, fast forward to last month I got one. Prior to getting this bicycle, I had not been on one in like thirty-five years or more, although I must confess that cycling was a big part of my pre-teen years. After the initial wobbling and trying to get a hang of it, it became a pleasure. So much so that the first time I rode for about ten minutes, I felt like a child in a candy store. The...

I AM WONDER WOMAN!!!

I wonder where where my keys are, I wonder why I went upstairs, I wonder where my mind has gone, I wonder who will annoy me today………. For women above 45 and those who know and love them, a big shout out to you all. It’s really good to be back home, home being this blog. When I took a break a month ago, I was not sure if I would return to writing on the blog. But here I am, feeling very rejuvenated and so so happy to be back. However, going forward, I will probably post once a month as against weekly to avoid being under pressure as that has a way of killing fun. During my break, I tried some new things. I started a herbs corner with Oregano, Mint, Basil and Sage at home. And I made garlic powder with no additives and no anti-caking agent. Watch out for “Fit4Kings” spices. 😉 “The first wealth is HEALTH”. Ralph Waldo Emerson Are you female, above 45? When you are in a conversation, do you find yourself wondering if you are about to repeat yourself or even just forget what you mean to sa...

Did You Know? Facts to Cheer You on the Healthy Journey (Part 2)

Welcome to another post from SHE. This is my 25th post and I’m hoping that all my efforts at encouraging you to join the healthy lifestyle party have yielded good fruits. That is what I have hoped for the most. I look back at my journey and wish someone had done this for me. An important part of healthy living is taking good breaks and SHE wanting to practise what she preaches will be taking a month long vacation to rejuvenate. When I resume, I will let you know if I will continue with the blog as my nine to five job is becoming more demanding. ‘You can not buy your health, you must earn it through healthy living.” Between 10-20% of health problems are misdiagnosed. And the figure is higher   in under-developed countries. Prevention is still better than cure. Here are 14 things you should know: Dark chocolate is good for the skin, its antioxidants improve blood flow and       protect against ultraviolet damage. Eating oatmeal provides a serotonin boost, which ...

Healthy Lifestyle - A must in a pandemic

Hello everyone! It’s another good day! When will this covid 19 pandemic end? There seems to be no end in sight. This period has brought so much fear, anxiety and pain more than anything I have ever known. How anyone views this times we are in depends so much on their personal experiences and knowledge. We have those who don’t believe it exists because they are yet to know anyone who’s had it and there are some who know its existence too well. There are those who believe everyone should be vaccinated at one end and those totally against it at the other end.   It doesn’t matter to me where you stand in all of these but taking a hold of your health by boosting your immunity is what I think we should all focus on at this time. Asides Covid 19, there are many other diseases taking people away daily. What can you do to make yourself less vulnerable to any disease, be it Covid 19, diabetes, high blood pressure, pneumonia, malaria etc? The immune system is the body’s defence against infect...

Know Your Numbers!

Hello people! I hope everything is going well. Life can be so interesting if we open our minds and eyes to the intriguing world around us. In the last one year, I have tried different fruits and vegetables that I had never even known existed. I thought I had done a great job at exploring new territories and then came along Nigerian jackfruit.   A fruit that weighs between 12 and 20KG. My curiosity got the better of me, I had to pre-order one. A jackfruit tree produces about only ten and it ripens one at a time. I work with children so what a great excuse to buy one, the children will be intrigued and most definitely enjoy the experience of being unable to lift and eat this unusual fruit. I can already see them telling everyone who cares to listen about it. Don’t you just love children? Learn to look at healthy living as an adventure, as well as an opportunity to know more. Let’s do this! Do you know your Blood Pressure and Blood Sugar status? These are vital numbers that anyone abo...

ANGER / RAGE - Poor Judgement or Poor Gut Health?

Hello everyone! I hope you are all keeping well and safe. I’m sure most of you have read and heard enough about Covid 19. However, when you learn of a loved one being struck by it, the pain of its reality returns quickly. Every battle is challenging but when we are faced with an enemy that is a virus, what do we do? I want to encourage us all to continue with the protocols of washing our hands, wearing masks and keeping safe distances. It is a good time to fortify our immune system as much as possible. Please refer to my posts on herbs & spices and essential oils. “The same chemicals found in the brain are also produced in the gut, their availability to the brain is largely governed by the activity of gut bacteria, and we are forced to realise that ground zero for all things mood-related is the gut.” - David Perlmutter Now to the business of the day, I have been trying to find the link between what we eat and our moods for quite a while because it really puzzled me that during the ...

Bread - To eat or not to eat?

Welcome to another post on the “Rejuvenatedlifebyashe”. Thank you to all my readers especially those who have adopted one or more of my recommendations and gave feedback. I’m so excited by the number of people who have joined me in the olive oil and honey therapy. The changes you are happy about is just the beginning. I am more glad for those in Nigeria who have more than enough reasons to avoid hospitals. “Doctors won’t make you healthy. Nutritionists won’t make you slim. Teachers won’t make you smart. Gurus won’t make you calm. Mentors won’t make you rich. Trainers won’t make you fit. Ultimately, you have to take responsibility. Save yourself.” Naval Ravikant. This week, let us all try to have at least five helpings of vegetables and fruits everyday. There are so many to choose from, be adventurous.   How many of you are in love with bread like me? Does it not hurt to see the prejudice it suffers in the hearts of so many dieticians and nutritionists? Is it that bread is truly a b...
