Healthy Lifestyle - A must in a pandemic
Hello everyone! It’s another good day! When will this covid 19 pandemic end? There seems to be no end in sight. This period has brought so much fear, anxiety and pain more than anything I have ever known. How anyone views this times we are in depends so much on their personal experiences and knowledge.
We have those who don’t believe it exists because they are yet to know anyone who’s had it and there are some who know its existence too well. There are those who believe everyone should be vaccinated at one end and those totally against it at the other end.
It doesn’t matter to me where you stand in all of these but taking a hold of your health by boosting your immunity is what I think we should all focus on at this time. Asides Covid 19, there are many other diseases taking people away daily. What can you do to make yourself less vulnerable to any disease, be it Covid 19, diabetes, high blood pressure, pneumonia, malaria etc?
The immune system is the body’s defence against infection. What empowers this system to do its work efficiently? Vitamin D deficiency appears to increase the body’s susceptibility to infection so keep that in check. Vitamin C is also key but keep in mind that the body does not store it so a daily intake is necessary.
Good hygiene is important. Wash your hands regularly especially before meals and after being to toilet. Avoid touching your face because our hands pick up many things during the day. Keep the kitchen clean especially the work surfaces where food is prepared. Wash dish sponges with hot water and change often enough as they tend to be breathing grounds for bacteria and viruses.
Eat well, load on fruits and vegetables. Some immune boosting foods are: citrus fruits (vitamin C), pawpaw, kiwi, red bell peppers (vitamin C), broccoli (one of the healthiest vegetables to be cooked as little as possible), spinach (also to be cooked as little as possible, add raw to smoothies), garlic, ginger, turmeric , yogurt (plain or Greek), almonds, tea, chicken (chicken soup is a popular convalescence meal).
As much as possible, avoid being stressed as stress has a negative effect on immunity. And get good sleep. Sleep supports immunity and poor sleep habits can have both short and long term negative effects on health.

Live well and keep well!
