A Changed Lifestyle
Have you ever been advised by a doctor to “change your lifestyle” because you were unwell? And did you wonder what in the world could probably translate to that very common but vague phrase?
I heard that from Doctors a number of times but didn’t quite do much about it because I had no clue of what changes would qualify as a “Changed Lifestyle”. Well, I didn’t do much until the dangers of not doing much became very apparent, to say the least.
When I started taking meaningful steps in my bid to have good health, It dawned on me that a changed lifestyle is not a temporary change to recover from ill health but a lifelong journey to live well for the rest of one’s life. This so called lifestyle includes what we eat, drink, wear, think, read and much more.
Food is a very important part of our wellbeing, if not the most important. To eat healthy, it requires us becoming Foodies. Foodies, not in the sense of how much food we consume but in the knowledge of what we eat. One must know what is good to eat, and be certain beyond reasonable doubt that what one eats is truly what one intends to. The right time to eat is also important but thus far, my area of strength is knowing what I eat.
What can possibly be there to know about food, after all they are usually labelled? What I have come to accept as a buyer is that I am absolutely responsible for my shopping. The Supermarkets may not even be knowledgeable about what they stock and sell, let alone determine what is good or not so good for the shoppers. I’m not sure that affects their bottom line in any way, if you know what I mean!!!😉
My favourite example and thing is Olive Oil. It is so versatile and useful that I believe every household should not be without. I down it neat in the morning for gut cleansing, use it to cook, dress my salad, oil my hair and body. It’s definitely one of the best things. God testified to it by making it the only acceptable oil for grain offering in the Old Testament.
There is a lot of benefits to derive from Olive Oil but there are a zillion and one options to choose from, how can one make the right choice. Worse still, making a wrong choice can mean one is compounding one’s health problems if you have any or creating one where there was none.
For more on Olive Oil, watch this space next week.
This is a succinct, illuminating and encouraging article. Looking forward to the next one..

DeleteGreat write-up. Also commencing on my healthy lifestyle journey for the 100th time... I think what’s critical is to be intentional about what we put into our bodies. We are fueling our bodies for maximum health so we have to assess what we consume carefully. Food and exercise remains the panacea for most illnesses!! Looking forward to more articles!!

ReplyDeleteWell done and thank you for the "Vuka"; Zulu word for wake up call, awakening if you will.
ReplyDeleteI say to people, eat your food as medicine, or you'd eat your meds as food. I guess being young leaves one nonchalant about what we eat/ consume. Ideally once over 30, we must become more deliberate; what we eat, how we live- exercises, down times, quiet times et al. Difficult yes, achieveable, definitely. Nice on Titi, don't stop.
Thank you Perci.
DeleteWow....thank you sis, thank you. God give me the discipline to follow through, and you too to keep inspiring us
