BODY MASSAGE - An Indulgence or A Necessity?
HELLO! I hope you are all very well. After the write up on honey, I had enquiries on where to source raw honey locally and I’m really glad that happened. I did some search and happy to inform my readers in Nigeria that I have raw honey from an apiary in Oyo State. 👏
How many of you rolled your eyes at today’s topic? I urge you to forget any thought that massage is only a feel-good way to indulge or pamper yourself, it is actually a powerful tool to help you take charge of your health and well being as well as have a happier life. It doesn’t matter if you have a specific health condition or are just looking for a stress reliever, It is just what the body needs.
Health is a relationship between you and your body. Take good care of your body, it’s the only place you have to live. And yes, life can be hectic and we don’t have enough time to take care of ourselves, but massage is very much needed for stress reduction and rejuvenation. A touch to the body can heal the mind and calm the spirit. The skin is the largest organ in the body and it’s the first layer of defence against anything.
When I look back in time, I am without a doubt that regular massages helped my body cope with high blood pressure. I did it then to cope with the stress of life as a working mother of young children in a city. Little did I know it would be a lifesaver.
Massage can be termed a type of treatment that uses different forms of physical contact to relax, revive and heal the body. There are many types from different parts of the world and for various purposes. Some are for soothing muscular pains, increasing energy levels, improve physical conditions or just relieve stress.
Massage increases blood flow, the amount of nutrients and oxygen that reach organs and tissues. It also encourages the body to circulate the good stuff and get rid of the bad like toxins, excess water and carbon dioxide. It boosts the immune system because it stimulates the nervous and lymphatic system.
One of the greatest effects of a massage is that it makes one feel good in a lot of ways and has a positive effect on the whole body; bones, muscles, heart, breathing, digestion and mental health.
BENEFITS
- Reduces stress, fights fatigue and increases relaxation.
- Reduces pain, muscle soreness and tension.
- Improves focus, energy and blood flow.
- Lowers heart rate and blood pressure.
- Boost immunity
- Reduces the frequency and severity of headaches.
- It encourages the production of the Happy Hormones and gives a higher sense of self-worth.
Even though massages have many benefits, please note that things can go wrong too. You should use only tested and trusted hands.
If you are unable to visit a spa/massage parlour, you can cultivate the habit of giving yourself a foot and / or hand massage whilst moisturising your body.I have read from many sources that all the organs and tissues in the body have a connection to the feet and hands. Although there is no scientific backing, having a foot and / or hand massage is going to be at the very least, relaxing. Reducing stress and being in a calm state can help the immune system to function better.
A glass of water after a massage is usually advised to make it easier to flush the toxins out of the body.
‘If you listen to your body when it whispers, you won’t have to hear it scream.”
Live WELL! And have a fantastic weekend! 😊
Sisterly, oya, recommend tested massage parlours. A friend was almost crippled by a massuer, she had to travel for medical attention to resolve the damage done by 1 hour of massage. In fact, please when you whet our appetite, also provide sources and links to access the services and foods. E da kun, thank you.

ReplyDeleteYep not an indulgence definitely self- care...!
ReplyDeleteOnce again Titi, you've killed it. I love this piece; took me a while to get my first massage as I had to deal with the thought of an absolute stranger😳😳😳 running all over me! Thankful I made the leap🤣🤣🤣 and have been the better for it. Shiatsu massage is best for people who want to feel relaxed and relieve stress, pain, and tension. It's a Japanese type of massage that: promotes emotional and physical calm and relaxation. helps to relieve stress, anxiety, and depression.
ReplyDeleteSince some asked! Adam and Eve homeware store actually have shiatsu massage chairs; thank me later.

ReplyDeletewow. An Indulgence or A Necessity? I would go with both ooo. Either to pamper this overworked Lagos body or to tune it back from its stress. Both ways, it makes a lot of sense. I really need one badly right now. Thank you for so much for sharing.
